                    SENATE RESOLUTION NO.    
                   BY  KIBBIE, GRONSTAL, and BEHN
  1  1 A Resolution honoring William L. Krieg for more than
  1  2    two decades of service to the Iowa Senate.
  1  3    WHEREAS, in the year 1989, the Berlin Wall came
  1  4 down, Chinese students occupied Tiananmen Square, a
  1  5 gallon of gas cost 97 cents, and William L. Krieg began
  1  6 a 22=year career with the Iowa Senate; and
  1  7    WHEREAS, Mr. Krieg was a long=time Des Moines
  1  8 resident who came to the Senate after a busy career,
  1  9 working with National By=Products, the Borden company,
  1 10 Pennwalt, the Des Moines Register, and Universal
  1 11 Hospital Services; and
  1 12    WHEREAS, beginning as Assistant Sergeant=at=Arms,
  1 13 Mr. Krieg soon assumed the position of
  1 14 Sergeant=at=Arms; and
  1 15    WHEREAS, for over 20 years Mr. Krieg shouldered
  1 16 the responsibility of bringing order and decorum to
  1 17 the floor of the Senate ==== no easy task in the swirl
  1 18 of a legislative session, where anything can and does
  1 19 happen; and
  1 20    WHEREAS, Mr. Krieg's most important responsibility
  1 21 was the direction and supervision of the young men and
  1 22 women who served as Senate pages, working with hundreds
  1 23 of these youngsters over the years, instilling in them
  1 24 a work ethic and  providing them with an opportunity to
  1 25 witness the political process firsthand; and
  1 26    WHEREAS, first and foremost Bill Krieg is a family
  1 27 man ==== a husband to his late, beloved wife Ruth, to
  1 28 whom he was married for 59 years, and a father to
  2  1 his children: Cindy (Jarard) Killip, Diane (Steve)
  2  2 Osiecki, Bill (Jean) Krieg, Mary (Bob) Rasmussen, and
  2  3 Jon (Patti McKee) Krieg; and
  2  4    WHEREAS, Mr. Krieg also has 11 grandchildren and
  2  5 seven great=grandchildren; and a 40=year succession of
  2  6 pet beagles: Dixie, Daisy, Rubi, and now Trixie; NOW
  2  7 THEREFORE,
  2  8    BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE, That the Senate honors
  2  9 William L. Krieg for more than two decades of service
  2 10 to the Senate and the people of Iowa, and wishes him
  2 11 and his family much happiness in the years to come; and
  2 12    BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That an official copy
  2 13 of this Resolution be prepared and presented to
  2 14 Sergeant=at=Arms William L. Krieg.
